Water | Toilet block
Water
Penn Road Allotments is connected to a mains water supply, which is suitable as drinking water.
There are standpipes / taps along the central paths and in the toilet block. This water supply is turned off between end of November and early April to limit the risk of burst pipes.
Any plot holder found to be using a hosepipe to directly water their plot risks losing entitlement to their plot with immediate effect.
Remember:
- Hosepipes can be attached to taps to fill water butts, but must not be used to water plots directly or attached to sprinklers
- Water butts and containers must be kept covered
- The water supply is on a meter and we pay invoices monthly for the water used so please remember to turn taps off after use!
Toilet block
There is an accessible, unisex toilet on site. Please see the map of the site for the location.
When you flush the waste goes into a septic tank which we pay to have emptied twice a year. The water from the hand wash basin drains onto the ground outside the toilet building.
You can still use the toilet block during the winter months, but as the water supply is turned off you will need to use the buckets of water by the toilet to ‘flush’.
Please bear in mind the toilet is cleaned by your fellow plot holders. Please do your bit to keep the toilet and sink clean!
